Matlab Utilities

  • Psychtoolbox -- a powerful set of free psychophysics functions for Matlab, useful for vision research. The most recent version (PTB-3) runs in Matlab version 7.x on Windows and Mac OSX. Linux is also loosely supported, although some tweaking may be necessary.

Emergent

Emergent, the newest manifestation of the project formally known as PDP++, is a comprehensive neural network simulation environment. It offers resources for beginners, such as network generation wizards, a full compliment of built in programs that handle the most common functions necessary for modelers, and renders networks in a 3D GUI. Emergent also offers many data analysis tools, is fully customizable, and can be run from the command line for larger projects requiring more processing power. The free software, which runs on all major platforms, is a complimentary project to the textbook, "Computational Explorations in Cognitive Neuroscience" (O'Reilly and Munakata 2000).
